3 Ladies Teams through to the Semi Finals!

What a fantastic day of tennis Saturday turned out to be!  Five ladies teams were through to the league quarter finals and after some nail biting matches 3 of the teams were successful and are through to the semi finals on Tuesday.

The first team kicked off the day with a 9.30 start against Malahide 1.  Lisa O’Shea and Julie Byrne playing singles had convincing 2 set wins but Jennifer Crotty, and the 2 doubles pairs of Caroline Grace and Kate Grennan and Judy O’Shea and Paula Crotty, went on to have tough 3 set battles.  Luckily Jennifer came through successfully and the team now face Greystones away on Tuesday at 7pm.

The second team captained by Adrienne Cusack faced a tough Claremont team at 11.oo.  There was some great tennis played but Claremont proved too strong on the day, hard luck to Adrienne, Geraldine, Ruth, Karen, Susie, Anna and Joan who all put up a great fight!

Team 4 played Mount Pleasant 6 and it was 1 all with Sinead Owens winning convincingly and Ciara MacKenna losing a tough singles. Rachel McAuley faced a tough second set after losing the first, and both doubles kept us on the edge of our seats.  As Rachel won the 2nd set Judith and Marion had match point at 5-4 in the second set.  Unfortunately they were taken to a tie break and saw a 6-1 lead disappear to see them face a 3rd set!  Louise and Anne were also taken to a third set but Rachel, Judith and Marion both won their matches so Louise and Anne had no need to finish their match.  Their semi final is away to Ratoath on Tuesday at 7.30.

Team 6 were up against a tough Blackrock team away in Green Road.  They had a 3-1 win over Monkstown after some tough 3 set matches went their way.  Hard luck ladies!

Team 7 had to travel to Ratoath for their quarter final.  With wins for Suzanne and Sorcha they were tied at 2 all so everything depended on Clodagh and Jana.  They had a very tight 3 setter but finally won 6-3 in the third set after lots of close deuce, van games! With only 4 courts Monkstown were there til after 3pm for an 11.30 match, well done ladies.  They are playing at home on Tuesday against Malahide.

The very best of luck to Teams 1, 4 and 7 in their semi finals on Tuesday evening.  All supporters would be very welcome!!!
