Monkstown LTC Travel To Castlebar Junior Open

I was really looking forward to going to the Castlebar Junior Open with David Keane, Harry Crossan, Jack Gannon and John O’Mahony. Catherine Keane was going to take us all on Friday morning but Jack and I couldn’t go because we had got through in the BD12 in Carrickmines. Gary Galvin and I got knocked out on Friday evening in the Quarters but Jack got through to the Semis with Michael Tougher.

My dad drove me to Castlebar really early on Saturday morning. When we arrived, the rest were all on court playing. Harry and David had both won their singles matches the day before. They also won the doubles match that we watched.

I played my singles at 11.30am and was delighted to win. David played the No 1 seed and beat him 6/7, 6/3, 10/7. He was brilliant! Jack arrived with his dad at lunchtime. We played doubles together that evening against Harry and David. We managed to win! John also played really well and got through to the Plate Final.

We had a great time that evening as we went bowling and to McDonalds. Later on we went back to the Club and played table tennis. We stayed in Lough Lannagh Lodge which had a really good breakfast. It was just beside the Club so we could walk there.

The next day we had an early start as our doubles match was on at 8.30am. We played two guys from Northern Ireland and won. We watched Oisin Ferriter play in the U18’s. He lost to the No 1 seed. We had seen Oisin playing Men’s League for Monkstown a few weeks ago. He is really good.

Jack and I played the singles final and Jack won. Later on that day we played in the BD14 and lost. John and Harry went home on the train as we couldn’t all fit in Catherine’s car. We left after prizegiving and arrived home at 10.30pm.

We had a really brilliant time and would like to thank Catherine Keane for looking after us because without her we would not have been able to go. I hope we can all go back next year.
