2012 Junior Championships

Our 2012 Junior Championships are now complete – a great week was had by all! We had 50 participants and the tournament was played in our usual sporting manner. Well done to you all and congratulations to the finalists.

Finals Day kicked off at 12. The day wasn’t as sunny as I had hoped for but all matches went ahead as scheduled, through rain, hail and sun. Thank you to all the umpires who volunteered their services again this year! Without your help each year, I wouldn’t be able to manage, so as always, many thanks.

Thank you to all the parents and kids who made beautiful cakes. The cakes are getting better by the year. Congrats to the McAuley ladies whose cake won the ‘Best Dressed Cake’ and to Julie Ringrose for the delicious chocolate shortbread toffee squares.

Thank you to all the Junior Committee who helped make our day so special. The Junior Committee, headed by Catherine Keane work timelessly during the year making sure all our junior events work so well. I am so appreciative of the commitment of all the Junior Committee members throughout the year and of all they do to help me run the Championships so smoothly. Thank you to all those who helped out on the day and – especially those who worked so hard in the Baguette Bar – Orla, Edel and Eileen who made delicious baguettes for us all. Thank you to the moms (who are not on the committee!) for also helping. Thank you to Olivia who worked all week with me, scheduling the matches etc.  She is always so calm and helpful – I would be lost without her.

Thank you also to Anne Crossan, who does so much work for everybody in our Club. She has our Junior Notice Board so organised – it would be impossible to find fault with it! She makes my job so easy with all the organisation of notices etc she does for me.  I could not run the tournament without her.

Thank you to Seamie who each year gives up his free time to take memorable photos. His photographs are amazing and the Parents, Stephen and I are so grateful to him.

Thank you also to Judy for all her dedication to the Juniors and to her huge commitment to everyone in the Club – we are forever grateful.

Finally, a huge thank you to Stephen who is responsible for the standard of tennis seen during the week and on Finals Day. He has got all our Juniors to the level they are at and also instilled in them what it means to be a team player for Monkstown LTC. The commitment from our Juniors and the level of sportsmanship is something that Stephen can only be proud of.

So, hope you all enjoyed the 2012 Junior Championships. Thank you all for your kindness to me, for the lovely gift and beautiful flowers. Hope to see you all in Fitzwilliam! Enjoy the rest of the summer!
