2010/2011 Floodlight League

Monkstown enjoyed a hugely successful Floodlight League campaign, with the highlight being the promotion of both Men’s & Ladies’ first teams to Class 1.

The club entered six teams, three in the men’s section and three in the women’s. There was a very strong junior presence on the teams with nine youngsters taking part.

In the Ladies event, Elizabeth Magee was the stand out player in the third team that reached the play-off in Class 5. Ciara MacKenna was also involved on this team and gave very strong performances. Olivia Crossan won all bar one of her matches for the second team as they also progressed to the knock-out stages. The first team, who did so well to reach the Class 2 final, had Amy ‘Young Scientist’ Ryan and Jennifer ‘OMG’ Crotty in their ranks, without whom they would not have achieved what they did.

In the Men’s section, Sean ‘Young Scientist eile’ O’Rourke and Simon Cusack performed very well for the second team who consolidated their position in Class 2. Congratulations also to our new recruit from Mayo, Oisin Ferriter, who made his competitive debut for the Club on the same team.

The first team, the Class 2 champions, while not having any juniors on the team, were especially grateful and thankful to the amount of boys and girls who came to support the team during the league. It was great to see so many Monkstown people at the final and players from other clubs were quick to point out how impressed they were with the number of Monkstown supporters present.

To finish, a big ‘thank you’ to Judy for all her help with the teams and for encouraging so many to attend the matches. Also, many thanks to Anne Crossan for updating the notice board so regularly with all the great posters!
