2009 Tennis for GOAL Day

50 of the club’s top Junior and Senior players took part in a ‘Tennis for GOAL’ event on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4th.

The participants were put into teams of 6. Each team played three matches which consisted of a guys doubles, a girls doubles and a mixed doubles.

As well as the tennis, the players were very well fed and a big thank you to all who brought a plate of food and to Adrienne who organised the grub and who sorted out pizzas for the juniors. Thanks also to Judy, who, as ever was on hand to supply the balls, collate the score and do anything else that needed doing!

GOAL supremo and Honorary Life Member of the Club, John O’Shea was also in attendance and was very impressed with the level of play that the youngsters in particular exhibited.

The eventual champions were ‘Team Safina’ which comprised of Johnny O’Shea, Adrienne Cusack, Simon Cusack, Carol Kelly, Fergus O’Rourke and Aisling Cullen. Johnny and Fergus spoke on behalf of those who took part and commented on how enjoyable the day had been.

The real winners once again were of course the poor of Calcutta as over €1000 was raised.

Go raibh mile maith agaibh to all concerned!!!
