November 2011 News

The days may be getting shorter but the tennis still goes on!  Monkstown LTC juniors were very involved in a number of competitions in November & December as follows:

Stars and Stripes.  The U14 team won the competition beating Newtown Park in a very close final which went down to the last girls’ doubles.  Many congratulations to the team and to Jacqui Byrne and Aoife Stokes who organised them.  We will now be hosting the tournament in the spring so another chance to get those flags and balloons out (bet you can’t wait!).

Matchplays.  7 Monkstown LTC juniors qualified for the Leinster finals (top 16 qualify). Sean O’ Rourke was unfortunately injured but Julie Byrne had a fantastic tournament winning the U16 title so many congratulations to her.  Rachel Hartnett and Gary Galvin also qualified in the U12 category and Jack Crossan in the U16 category.  All 3 will now be playing in the All Ireland finals in Belfast and Dublin next week so the very best of luck to them.

Floodlight League.  We had a large number of juniors playing in the senior floodlight league and special mention must go to Amy Ryan and Jennifer Crotty who were part of a 4 man team who became the first Monkstown LTC team ever to contest a Class 1 final!!  They did us proud on the night and so nearly won!  Sean O’Rourke  also helped the Class 1 men’s team get to the semi final which was a fantastic achievement. The other juniors – too many to list – also all played well so many congratulations to all of you – you know who you are!

Christmas Tournaments.  We will be running these in the first week of January – on Wednesday the 4th.  U12s will be at 12.30-2pm and Over 12’s from 2-4pm.  The sign-up sheets are on the notice board.

Junior boxes.  We will be running winter boxes for the juniors to be played between Christmas and Easter.  Again, we hope to get as many people as possible involved so please let myself or Adrienne know if you would like to play or sign up on the board.

Finally, November and December Players of the Month were Rachel Hartnett and Ross MCCabe so well done to them

Happy Christmas!!!
