Meeting Padraig Harrington

On Saturday 19th December, Padraig Harrington, the three time Major winner held a huge sale of his golf equipment and memorabilia in the Dundrum shopping centre in aid of GOAL.

I went along with my sister, brother and my mum.  We started queuing at 10.30 and there were hundreds of people there.  We saw David Keane and Amy Ryan in the queue. There were lots of Goalies helping and Johnny, Lisa, Karen and Padraig’s wife Caroline brought loads of stuff outside to us to sell while we were waiting – so there was lots to look at.  It was absolutely freezing and the Goalies brought out some trays of hot food. There was a lovely atmosphere and lots of people passing by stopped and had their photos taken with the British Open Cup and the US PGA Cup and then put some money in the GOAL boxes.

At last we got inside the shop.  We bought a poster and a signed 9 iron – so I am going to work on my swing in the back garden.  Then we queued to get autographs and hopefully our photographs taken.  It was 2 o’clock and Padraig had been signing his autograph for 3 hours and as there were so many people waiting – he was going to be there for another couple of hours.  He was amazing, he smiled all the time and chatted.

Then it was our turn and my mum asked him to sign the back of our GOAL t-shirts.  He said to me ‘how are you?’ and I said ‘good’.  He signed our t-shirts and we had our photographs taken with him and then we said thank you and left.

It was a brilliant day and an amazing €50,000 was raised for GOAL.
