2012 Stars & Stripes U12 Autumn Tournament – Week 2

Monkstown LTC vs Glenageary

A Great Performance!

Our second fixture was in Glenageary and if we thought we had good matches last week, we had even better ones this week!  The No 1 girls – Claire Doyle and Sarah Healy looked to be in trouble going 7-3 down early on but staged a great comeback to get it back to 7-6.  No 2s Lucy Coulter Smith and Julie Ringrose also were up against strong opposition and were in trouble but also fought hard to narrow the margin to 8-5.  So Glenageary were 15-11 up. Then in the performance of the night for the girls, the two Annas– Anna Foster and Anna Schwer won their match 9-4 giving the girls a one point win 20-19 – so well played girls!

The boys’ games were also of very high quality.  No 1s Harry Shaw and Mark Foster had a great match against the two Glenageary No 1s going down 8-5 in the end.  No 2s Oliver McGannon and Ben McCarthy played exceptionally well together – like good thoroughbreds they benefitted from the run last week – and won their match 9-4.  Scott Ruttle made his debut for the team at No 3 (when he remembered about it!) and also combined well with Conor Duddy winning that match 9-4 so a 23-16 win for the boys and an overall 43-35 win for Monkstown LTC. As usual we had great support on the night and were very well hosted by Glenageary so an enjoyable evening for all.

Next match is against Newtown Park on Saturday in Monkstown LTC and this game will decide whether we qualify for the cup or the shield so very much all to play for.
