2011 Stars & Stripes U12 Autumn Tournament – Week 2

Monkstown LTC vs Glenageary

A Wake Up Call!

Following the great opening display against Shankill, Monkstown LTC were brought right back down to earth with a very difficult fixture in Glenageary. The girls team – minus two of their regular six – had a tough task. No 1s Rachel Hartnett and Rachel Norton so nearly pulled off a great win, but were just beaten in the tie break going down 7-6. Girls No 2s Sarah McGee and Lucy Coulter Smith had a very entertaining game with very long rallies, but were beaten by a stronger Glenageary pair 11-2 on the night. Sarah Healy and Caoimhe Byrne had a similar game and the same score. So the girls lost 29-10.

Boys No1s Harry Crossan and David Keane won their game 10-3, playing some great tennis along the way, but that was to prove the only victory of the night! Boys No 2s Patrick Byrne and Ben Gannon were up against a strong Glenageary pair and played very long games and rallies but unfortunately came down the wrong side of many of them, going down 12-1. No 3s Adam McGovern and Greg O’Carroll also had a tough game going down 11-2 in the end. So the boys lost 26-13 and Glenageary won the overall match 55-23. A very enjoyable night was had by all and we were well looked after by our hosts

In the friendly games Alex Boyne and Mark Foster had a very good 9-4 win against the Glenageary pair. Back in Monkstown LTC, Sarah Lenin had a good match against Lucy Rice, coming out on top while Claire Doyle and Anna Foster had a narrow win against Anna Schwer and Julie Ringrose in another entertaining game. The final match was an all CBC Monkstown boys doubles between Alex McGinn and John O’Mahony and Luke Sweeney and Harry Shaw with Luke and Harry just coming out on top. Many thanks to Ruth McGinn who looked after the games in Monkstown LTC on the night.

Next match is against Blackrock on Friday night in Monkstown LTC. We are trying to arrange some friendlies also in Blackrock but court availability is restricted so we may not be able to have as many children playing this week. Details of teams will be circulated shortly.
