2011 Stars & Stripes U12 Autumn Tournament – Week 4

Monkstown LTC vs Glenageary

Pack your bags – We are There!

Great performances from both the girls and boys in the semi final last Saturday saw Monkstown LTC come out on top against Sandycove and put them into the final against Glenageary on Saturday. The girls team had to be rearranged following an injury to Rachel Hartnett but rose to the challenge! No 1s Rachel Norton and Grace Mary Doyle fought well but just lost out 9-4. No 2s Sarah Healy and Sarah McAuley gave the performance of the night winning all 13 games while No 3s Caoimhe Byrne and Sarah McGee had a great game just edging out their opposition 7-6. Overall a 24-15 win for the girls.

In the boys, the matches were very close and well contested. No 1 pair Harry Crossan and David Keane again put in a good performance with Harry showing fantastic touch at the net and won 9-4. Finlay McFadyen and Ben Gannon playing together for the first time also performed strongly winning 9-4 and in the closest match of the night No 3s Patrick Byrne and Adam McGovern just saw off their opposition to win 7-6 so overall a great 25- 14 win for the boys and a 49-29 win for the team. Well done to everybody and many thanks to Suzanne and Karen who looked after the teams on the night.

Back in Monkstown LTC there was pretty much organised chaos as a series of unfortunate events – including injury, illness and a general shortage of Sandycove players – led to the final line up bearing only a passing resemblance to the original schedule! These people that keep their maiden name don’t help as considerable discussion went into seeing whose mother Olivia Heavy – who had very kindly volunteered to look after the scheduled kids on the night – was!! (She is actually Luke Sweeney’s mum for future reference.) Thanks to a lot of effort from Karen Gannon, Karen Ivory, Olivia and Suzanne – all was resolved by 5pm and some excellent matches were held. Alex Boyne won his singles against Harry Shaw 8-5, Claire Doyle and Anna Foster won their game against Rosie McFadyen and Lucy Coulter Smith 8-4 (which doesn’t add to 13 but I don’t ask anymore!) and John O’Mahony won his singles against Luke Sweeney.  Julie Ringrose and Anna Schwer opted to play their box match which was very sensible. Many thanks to all who helped out on the night – none of these matches could happen without the fantastic support of so many of the parents.

We are hosting the Final and presentation in Monkstown LTC on Saturday. Matches will start at 5.30 and we will involve as many children as possible. I have asked Glenageary if they can host a couple of friendlies there and am waiting to finalise that. All of the clubs will be descending on Monkstown LTC for the presentation which starts at 8 so we would really appreciate it if all parents could bring some food – does not have to be home baked – for the party. Also don’t forget to support the raffle in aid of GOAL – prizes include coaching with Stephen, coaching with Dave Cooney, wine, chocolates and a host of other small prizes. We do not charge any entry fee for the kids for this competition, so we would really appreciate your support for the raffle.

Finally the very best of luck to the team in the final – remember they did lose fairly comprehensively to Glenageary in the pool match so they will need all of our support to try and turn it around in the final.
