2012 Stars and Stripes U14 Autumn Tournament

Monkstown LTC vs Blackrock

Well done to the U14 team on a great performance on Saturday!  The girls – ably assisted by some of our U12s – were apprehensive before the match but played extremely well on the night. Sarah McAuley played an opponent at least twice her height but managed to win four games while Sarah McGee came back from 5 nil down to win 5 of the next 8 – so well done to her. The No 1 doubles Sarah Healy and Claire Doyle had a great match and just won 7-6 and the stars of the night were Caoimhe  Byrne and Julie Ringrose who won their match 10-3 making it a 26 all draw!

We expected our boys to be good and they were.  John O’Mahony  has been in fantastic form all through this tournament and won the No 1 singles 12-1. This was his third 12-1 victory and it is not that the opposition is weak – most of the games go to deuce but John is just so focussed he wins all the tight games –  so very well done.  Harry Crossan has also been playing very well and he won a very entertaining match 8-5 with some great drop shots along the way. The No 1 doubles David Keane and Adam McGovern had a tough game going down 8-5 but the No 2 doubles Patrick Byrne and Alex Boyne were in fine form winning their game 11-2 – again very tight games – the tiebreak was 14-12 – we thought we would never get out of there!  So the boys won 36-16 and Monkstown LTC won the match 62-42 so very well done to all.  That result means – barring a statistical aberration that we will win the pool and have a home semi-final in Monkstown LTC against either Sandycove or Newtown Park.

Many thanks
