2012 Stars and Stripes U14 Autumn Tournament – Semi Final

Monkstown LTC vs Newtown Park

Monkstown LTC in U14 Final!

Well done to both the girls and the boys on Saturday for a great display against Newtown Park in the semi final.  The No 1 and No 2 boys singles were fantastic matches with John O‘Mahony and Harry Crossan both winning 8-5.  Both matches were a real pleasure to watch.  The No 1 doubles pairing of David Keane and Patrick Byrne straight from a Gaelic match for Cuala were clearly well warmed up and won their match 11-2 and we are particularly grateful to two of our U12s Harry Shaw and Oliver McGannon who came in at very short notice to play in the No 2 doubles match and came very close to taking it, just losing out 7-6 in the end but a fine display.  So the boys won 33-19

The girls had struggled a bit at this level last season but we really have to take our hats off to them as they have worked hard this season.  In particular their weekly session with Michael McMahon just ahead of the matches seems to have really worked.  Rachel Norton had a wonderful 7-6 win at No 1 singles and Caoimhe Byrne and Sarah McAuley had a fine 9-4 win in the doubles.  Clarie Doyle and Sarah Healy (both U12) resumed their winning partnership again wining their doubles 7-6 and Sarah Magee came up against a tough opponent in the second singles but still won 3 games so it was a 26 all draw in the girls which meant Monkstown LTC won the semi-final 59-45 and will play Bray in the final next Saturday.  The final will take place in Sandycove who are hosting as they won it last time out.

Many congratulations to the team and special thanks to Anne Noonan who has done such a fantastic job with the girls’ team.

The final will kick off at 5pm with the two boys’ singles and then the remaining 6 matches will all be on court at 6pm. The final will be followed by the presentation and the usual raffle in aid of GOAL which we would be grateful if you could support on the night.

Many thanks
