UNDER 12s CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT

Our Under 12s Christmas Tournament was held on Wednesday January 4th!  The weather wasn’t too good but good fun was had by all regardless!  While having good fun and lots of goodies, we also raised money for GOAL which is really important to our Monkstown Juniors.

Thank you to all of you who participated and hopefully at our next tournament (at mid-term) we will have a few more participants!  Congratulations to our 3 winners – Lucy Rice, Claire Doyle and Julie Ringrose.

Hope to see you all soon, whether at coaching or just playing!

OVER 12s CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT

21 juniors braved the wind for the Over 12s Christmas Tournament on the 4th January which was organised by Helen Ryan and myself.  We ran a team competition with 4 teams of 5 and a bit of switching around to cater for the extra body.  It was all very tight in the pool matches (4 games plus a tie break) with only 6 points separating all 5 teams after each team had played 4 matches. Team B captained by David Cullen and Team C captained by Rex Lloyd narrowly made it through to the final which consisted of two championship tie breaks.  In the first one, John O’Mahony and Amy McGovern (covering for Grace Mary Doyle who had to leave early) from Team B pipped  Lara Sommerville and Harry Crossan by 10 points to 8. Then unbelievably Rex Lloyd and Rachel Norton from Team C beat David Cullen and Sarah McGee by exactly the same score. The decision was to play a final sudden death point in that game to decide the competition.  Fittingly it was a great point but David and Sarah held their nerve to take the match so very well done to Team B.

The final excitement was the raffle for a large box of chocolates which was won by Harry Crossan – much to Anne’s delight – she was only saying how she loved having sweets around in January(!)

Many thanks to all the children who took part and played so well and with such nice spirit– great to see them all back after the Christmas break and also many thanks for helping to raise €105 for GOAL.
