Ladies team progresses to Senior League finals!

A busy weekend for the Monkstown ladies teams saw 2 quarter finals and a semi played at home.

Hard luck to our 2nd team, Class 4, captained by Carmel McAllister, who were beaten by Elm Park 1 in the quarter finals.  At 1 all, it was all down to the no 1 pairing of Joan Queally and Trish Manahan who battled hard but were beaten 6-4 in the 3rd set.

The 4th team, Class 5, captained by Anne Noonan, also had strong opposition from Sutton 6.  They were also 1 all and anxiously watching Suzanne Broughan and Clodagh Murray battle away in the 3rd set after 2 tie breaks.  Luckily it wasn’t so close in the 3rd set and and they were victorious!

The semi finals was also played at home on Sunday with another Elm Park team opposing us!  The matches weren’t as tight as the quarters and both Anne and Ellen, and Suzanne and Karen Ivory (subbing) won their matches in 2 sets.  Maire and Mandy were fighting hard in the 2nd set, having taken the 1st, so they were no doubt very relieved that they didn’t have to finish the match.

The finals are next Sunday, October 20th and Monkstown will face Wicklow 3.  Venue and time has still to be confirmed by DLTC, so details will follow.  Thanks to the supporters this weekend, we hope to have lots of support next Sunday, it is very much appreciated.  Well done ladies!!!
