Mens Summer League Round 2

A disappointing loss for the 1st team after a promising start last week; they’ll need to pick up points wherever they can to ensure their future in class 1. They were swept aside 5-0 at home to Glenageary 1.

The return of captain JH Roche revitalised the 2nd team who got some much needed points on the board with a 3-2 win over De Vesci 1. Next week they take on Glenageary 2 and will hopefully get some retribution for the 1st team.

The 3rd team continue to steamroll everything in their path winning 9 from 10 of their matches played so far. This time Meadowvale 1 were the recipients of a 4-1 beating from the ‘town. Well done to the lads who went straight out to Monkstown to play for the 2nd team as well.

John Coburn and Kevin O’Kelly battled in 3 sets to win what could be a crucial point against hot favourites to win the group, Glenageary 3. The 4th team play at home next Saturday at 2 o’clock, sell out expected so get down early.

The 5th team tonight ensured a superb start to the second weekend of the league campaign by securing a hard fought 3-2 victory over a Fitzwilliam [6] side seeking their first points of the League campaign.First Doubles won love and 1, Second Doubles won 2 and 2. Marcello [Pietroclarke] was brilliant at the net and yours truly [with] some great gets. Unfortunately the 1 and 2 singles lost 3 and 1, Mark Smyth subbing at Number 3 won 6-1 in third.

The 6th team bounced back brilliantly this week with a win over Lansdowne 7. They could have mistaken the cheers coming from Lansdowne Road to be for them, as they rounded off a classy display winning 5-0. They follow the 4th team at 4 o’clock on Saturday in MLTC in what promises to be a feast of tennis.
