Men’s Winter League Round 5

The 1st team secured a home Quarter-Final against Trinity 1 with a hard fought 2-1 win over Elm Park 1. The points came at 1st and 2nd doubles, Michael McMahon holding his nerve to serve out his match and win the tie. The ‘town will be looking to reverse the result of last year’s Class 3 final in Castleknock where the students were crowned champions of the division. Both teams were promoted and now face each other in a match that will be rescheduled due to Trinity’s involvement in intervarsities. Please keep an eye on the club notice board and website for confirmation of that match time.

Adam Craig and Simon Cusack stuck to their winning ways against Shankhill 2 The solitary point assures the 2nd team’s involvement in Class 3 next year. Special thanks to Denis Feighery for an excellent job as captain of a team that often struggled with availability of players.

The 3rd team have had a thrilling campaign to date coming through some close matches. They shared top spot going into the last group match against Mount Pleasant 6; who they blew away 3-0 to ensure a home Quarter-Final against Leixlip 1. That match takes place on March 9th in Monkstown and if previous rounds are anything to go by we’re in for some exciting tennis.

The 4th team rounded off their campaign with an impressive 2-1 win away to Clane 1. That left them in third place but consequently they miss out on the playoffs. However, when captain Brian O’Neill reflects on his team’s campaign he will no doubt feel the sense of satisfaction that comes only with a successful league campaign.

The 5th team finished their campaign with a moral boosting 2-1 win away to C’Mont/R’Way 4, which was no more than they deserved. Well done to Richard Keevey who captained a successful campaign.
