MLTC Ladies win Class 2 Finals!

There was a fantastic day of tennis in Templeogue yesterday in the summer league finals.

Huge congratulations to our first team who beat Glasnevin 1 3-0 with some great tennis.  Julie Byrne and Kate Grennan had convincing straight set singles wins. Lisa O’Shea lost the first set of her match in a tiebreak but was comfortably ahead in the second set when Judy O’Shea and Caroline Grace beat their opponents.  They had won the first set in a tiebreaker and then cruised ahead to take the second. Adrienne Cusack and Anna Gunning came from 4-1 behind in the second set, and 1 set down to take the second set and it was game on for the third when the 3-0 victory was confirmed.  The team was captained for the finals by Caroline Grace as Paula Crotty was away, waiting tensely for updates on the match!  We look forward to having Monkstown’s name engraved on the cup for the first time since 1996 and adding it to our trophy cabinet!  Very best of luck to the ladies who will compete in next summer’s Class 1.

Our 7th team captained by Clodagh Murray got off to a wet start as the heavens opened but soon settled in as they played Templeogue 9, the home team.  Sorcha Clarke and Sara Stevenson won their singles matches in straight sets but Suzanne Broughan unfortunately lost hers as did the doubles pairing of Siobhan Coburn and Anne Dolphin.  It was 2 all and all down to Clodagh and Jana Stevenson in the no 2 doubles.  After winning the first set in the tiebreak they saw their second set lead slip away and battled for the 3rd but it was not to be.  Great tennis was played by everyone, well done ladies for getting so far and for your promotion to Class 6, and we look forward to displaying your pennant in the club!

As usual there was great support from Monkstown which was much appreciated by the players and we had our very own Monkstown Mound to match that of Murray’s in SW19!
