News & Events 14th July 2017

There’s a lovely holiday feel about the tennis club at the moment…lots of Junior activity and many tanned, relaxed people just back from holidays…..while others are heading off!
The Senior Handicaps have crept up on us …Greg & Deirdre have their work cut out working out the draw & the handicapping! The event runs from Wed 19th – Sat 29th July. Court bookings are obviously curtailed during those dates. The draw / timetable of matches should be available from next Monday. The ladies in charge of catering – Margaret & Breege- have the list up looking for volunteers to do supper duty each evening….please signup for an evening that suits you!.

JUNIORS; Lots of exciting news concerning many of our Junior, Conor and Sarah H have been selected to represent Ireland at the European Youth Olympic Festival. Conor for Tennis and Sarah in the Athletics event, the Games are being held in Gyor, Hungary from the 22nd – 30th July. Representatives from 10 different sports partake, the age group being 14 – 18 years. The very best of luck to you both!
Sarah McA was selected to play for the Girls U/16 Irish Hockey team. (Sarah H was a reserve for the team!). They Played Scotland last weekend and head for Barcelona this weekend for the European 6 Nation, the very best of luck!
Some great tennis results, Castleknock was the venue for those on the circuit last week. Roy won the U/12 singles – Charlie won the U/12 boys doubles (he reached the semis of the U/12 singles). Sarah Jane Ruttle got to the semis of the U/12 girls doubles, having beaten the No 1 seeds on the way! Congrats to all…you’re all representing Monkstown with great pride!
Adrienne is doing a great job keeping all the Juniors occupied on court during the day, thanks to our Senior members who try to play before 10 and at lunchtime to facilitate the Juniors. The Junior Handicaps are on next week so court availbility will be even more restricted!
Stephen’s Tennis Camp – ably assisted by Rachel Hartnett -was well attended this week. The next Camp will be on 24th – 28th July, signup sheet on the Notice Board.

A few of our Senior members are playing in the Carrickmines Open this week, Julie Byrne is playing the Ladies Singles and Johnny O’Shea & Fergus O’R are playing together in the Doubles as are Gary Galvin & Kevin Wylde. Harry Crossan is playing with a young gun from Sandycove!.

A happy ending this week, Denis Feighery is getting married to morrow in Majorca to his love Grace, have a wonderful day.
