News & Events 15th November 2018

Another successful AGM passed last night, would you believe it lasted 17 minutes! A good attendance heard our President Geraldine Colgan give a very positive synopsis of the past year. The Executive Committee also got true recognition for the time and effort they put into their various positions. Geraldine, on the professional way she chairs the committee meetings, ably supported by the Vice President Susie Kennelly, our secretary Pauline Phelan who minuted all the meetings so accurately, our treasurer Lar Ging who kept such control on the finances, our Junior coordinator Roisin Schwer who was instrumental in completing The Child Protection Policy for MLTC. To our outgoing officers the Captains Niall & Denise who had a wonderfully successful year, ably assisted by their vice captains Johnny & Carmel, our event coordinators Mary Meagher & Geraldine Byrne who worked so hard to complement the tennis events with terrific functions and to Mark Smyth who oversaw all works to the courts and surrounding areas.  Geraldine made a presentation to each of the outgoing officers.  Johnny O’Shea was elected Men’s’ Captain with Carmel Mc Allister (nee McAteer) being elected Ladies Captain very interesting to see the name O’Shea / McAteer linked after all these years, both having been Junior members!! Helen Ryan was elected Vice Ladies Capt. Karen Ivory was elected event coordinator and Kevin Polley was elected to Grounds. Congratulations and good luck for the incoming year.

The Men’s’ 1st team played a blinder in their quarter- final match last Monday and came through to play in the semi-finals next Monday 19th against Elm Park 1st in Monkstown at 7pm. Supporters greatly appreciated so pop down and see some great tennis, particularly our juniors!

Both the Ladies 1st and 2nd teams lost in their quarter- final matches, very tough luck ladies.  By the way courts 4, 5 & 6 are now free for booking from 7 – 9pm next Tuesday.

Our new Captains Johnny & Carmel are on the ball already with a reminder that the Annual Turkey tournaments will be held on Sunday 2nd December (Men in the morning and Ladies in the afternoon) with the Mixed being played on Sunday 9th December.  Sign-up sheets with full details will be on the Notice board next week.

Club Night:  Club Night will be hosted tonight by Pat Clear, thanks Pat nice to see you back!

Ladies Morning Charity leagues continue, so thrilled were the non-League Monday team with their win last week that not only did they win again this week but the other two Monday teams won as well!!  All to play for both Monday / Tuesday teams with just one match to go. The sign-up sheet for the Ladies Christmas party is now on the notice board which is on Friday 30th November.

Juniors:  The boy’s U/14 league team were just pipped in the semi-final of their match last Sunday, you did so well guys, well done.  The U/14 stars & stripes played last Saturday, very good to see five new members playing on the team!
