News & Events 1st February 2019

A positive start to the Winter League, with six out of the eight Ladies teams winning and three out of six Men’s teams registering a win. Good Luck to all teams this week. Men’s’ Morning will be disrupted quite badly this coming Sunday with one match at 9.30am and two matches at 11am.
The Charity League teams have been selected and are on the Notice Boards.
Next event up for the Ladies Morning Committee to organise is the Valentine’s Tournament, which will be held on Wednesday 13th February at 9am. The entry fee is €15.00 and the deadline for sign up is Wednesday next the 6th February. It’s always a very enjoyable, fun event so get your name on the board!

JUNIORS: Just a reminder if you want to sign up your child for The Stars & Stripes league (U/12 or U/16) the deadline is this weekend. The league starts on Sat 9th Feb.

The club hosted a lovely event last Saturday at lunchtime. It was the launch of the Tennis 4 Cancer Charity event for 2019. Our own Grace Owens founded this special Charity which is so dear to so many of us. Grace has done a phenomenal job promoting the charity amongst all tennis clubs in Leinster. The idea is for each club to have a fundraiser during the months of April/May. Last year in excess of €23,000 was raised which is a fantastic sum for the first year. Much to Grace’s delight, former Irish No. 1 Conor Niland has come on board as the Patron for the Charity and said a lovely few words, as did Grace and our own Captain Johnny at the launch. Also attending were former rugby great Tony Ward and future rugby great Luke McGrath! Both are Ambassadors for ARC the Cancer Support Centre. Representatives of Breast Cancer research were also in attendance. Our own Scott Barron & George Mc Gill, two former Irish Davis Cup players and Gina Niland former Irish Ladies No. 1 and Fed Cup player were also there. A great array of talent for a wonderful cause.

As is traditional for Gabriel Grier he collected all the unclaimed Lost Property the other day to bring it to South Africa and distribute it amongst the poorest of the poor. Gabriel says we have no idea of the thrill the little kiddies get when given these “gifts”.

The Committee have decided to overhaul the MLTC Website. We would love to have suggestions/ideas from our members. Also, any professional help would be appreciated. Please contact Lar Ging by email – lging@eircom.net
