News & Events 24th August 2017

Well what a week of Tennis & Social events we’ve had! The “140 years” celebration evening organised by Margaret Heagney and ably assisted by Breege Egan was a lovely evening. Margaret went to no end of trouble to produce some delicious food washed down with a glass of Prosecco.  Thanks to Frances Loughrey for spending the evening in the kitchen washing up etc. John (O’S) said an interesting few words on the history of the club – being the oldest longstanding member in the room!

On Tuesday we had the very popular annual “Golden Oldies” dinner.  Breege Clancy amazes us every year how she can produce almost 70 delicious meals from our small kitchen! The atmosphere is always very special and Mick & Breege are so appreciative of the great support they get, so far €1,500 has been donated – a brilliant figure. Don O’Brien, a representative from the Charity “CRY” said a few words on the history of the Charity.

On the tennis front we’ve been treated to some really exciting matches – with a few still to go. The Mixed Final will be held tomorrow night @ 8.30pm, Finals Day on Saturday will start around 12 noon – with matches @ 1.30 pm & 3 o’clock. Pop down to view what should be a feast of exciting, competitive tennis! As you always do, please bring a plate of goodies for Afternoon Tea! The “At Home” is on that evening in Killiney Golf Club.  If you intend to go and haven’t put your name down please let either Margaret or Breege know this evening or email me – it’s your last chance!   Would those of you who are going please pay your “Table head”   ASAP – final numbers must be given to the Golf Club tomorrow.

JUNIORS:   The obvious highlight of the season happened last Saturday in Fitzwilliam – with Charlie winning an Irish Junior Title. He won the U/12 doubles in a fantastic final…the doubles skills were there for everyone to see – huge congratulations Charlie!  Conor was just pipped in his final – U/16 Singles – but your talent was very much to be seen, congrats on a super season Conor. A big Thank You to all the supporters who made it to Fitz… meant a lot to the lads.

It’s almost Back to School time….I think you really are a very lucky group of girls & boys after the summer you’ve had here in the tennis club! Karen did a super job looking after you all, during August – as did Adrienne in July. Karen finishes tomorrow Friday….so there will be no Day Manager on duty next week.  Thanks Karen!

Group coaching commences on Monday 11th September.
