News & Events 24th February 2018

The end of the Winter League in sight with one match to go this Sunday, a brief summary of the team standings going into the last round of matches.

MEN:  1st Team R/up Class 2, 2nd Team 3rd place Class 3,3rd Team midway Class 3, 4th Team midway Class 5, 5th Team 3rd place Class 6 and 6th Team TOP of class 7! All to play for this Sunday. Best of luck to the Captains’ Stephen – Robin – David K – John C – Greg – Niall and your teams. LADIES: 1st Team R/up Class 2, 2nd Team R/up Class 3, 3rd / 4th /5th / & 6th Teams battling for survival!  7th Team midway in Class 6. Again, best of luck to the Captains’ Claire – Carmel – Pat C – Anne B – Anne N – Aoife & Fiona. As with the lads it’s all to play for this week!

Pat Cowley won the O/65 singles event at the Irish Vets Indoor Championships 2018 played in Belfast last weekend. Tom Crotty reached the Final of the O/55 doubles. Well done Pat & Tom, great performances.

The Easter Cup got underway last Saturday with Joe Byrne – Aaron Duffy – Shafic Far – John Mc Cambridge – Dave Sommerville -& ably captained by Brendan Egan making their debut representing Monkstown on a league team. Their nerves got the better of them and they lost, but are raring to go to reverse the result this Saturday! 

 Men’s Morning on Sunday will be glad to hear there are NO matches on Sunday @ 9.30 am but there are two matches @ 11am.

Ladies Morning is up and running again with Coaching available with Stephen from 9am – 10am. The Charity League also got underway this week with an enthusiastic start by all six teams.

 

JUNIORS:  The highlight of the week has to be the performance of young Scott (Jnr) in Holland to compete in the Dutch Bowl event.

The Stars & Stripes league got underway last Saturday with a very promising start from all teams. Thanks to all the Mums who are helping out with the teams etc… Roisin – Nicky – Anne C, Claire Ah – Fionnualla & Alice.

In athletics, a remarkable performance by our own Sarah as at the age of just 17, she won her 1st Senior title Indoors at 3,000m, in doing so she smashed the Irish U/20 and Youth records to win her maiden national title in 9:10.43. Wow Sarah that is some performance, a huge Congratulations from us all!
