News & Events 26th October 2017

“Super Sunday”, that’s the only way to describe last Sunday in Clontarf for the Senior League Finals. Our Men’s 1st O/35 team & our Ladies 1st O/35 came home with the Trophies after great wins over Fitzwilliam and Clontarf respectively. What tennis from both teams, a huge congratulations to Scott & Mickymac – Stephen & Ciaran – Johnny & Robert, Gina & Geraldine – Claire & Helen – Anna & Karen.  Our Men’s O/55 Team were very unlucky in that poor Declan pulled a calf muscle at the end of the 1st set & he & Fintan had to concede their match. Tom & Brian went down to a very strong No 1 pairing from Clermont Railway, which left Liam & Paddy unfinished, but giving it their all. The large turnout of Monkstown support played a major in our success that day.

The Floodlight League is drawing to a close but not without a Monkstown presence! Our Men’s 1st team have reached the 1/4 finals (to be played on Mon 6th Nov) and the Men’s 2nd team play their 1st round playoff on Wed next 1st Nov. Full details to follow. Best of luck guys. The Ladies 3rd team were just pipped in their last group match, with each match going to three sets and many tiebreaks thrown in! Tough luck Nicky & your team. A very successful end to your term as Captains’, Greg and Deirdre!

Don’t forget to sign up for the Sunday Brunch which is on Sundays 5th, 12th & 19th November.

The Ladies Morning Committee held a hugely successful Halloween tournament yesterday. This year the event was in aid of Charity, namely Open Spectrum – a charity very close to the heart of Kate Far (Bunbury) who said a lovely few words about the charity which helps children with Autism. Kate was bowled over by people’s generosity in raising €1045 on the morning. She is deeply grateful to all who contributed in any way, particularly the committee of Sarah Jane, Anne, Aislinn & Helen who organised the tennis and asked people to bring amazing food!

Clubnight tonight will be hosted by Rob Mc Cullagh…thanks a mil Rob. It’s a nice pleasant evening so pop down for a game.

JUNIORS The Halloween tournament will be held on Tues next 31st @ 12noon – 2pm sign up before the weekend, entry fee €5 or  €10 per family.  Should be great fun. There will be no coaching during the mid-term break Monday 30th to Sunday 5th November.

Last week I asked people to be conscious when approaching the top of the driveway in the evening to reduce your headlights. The lights really do blind people on court no 3 and even court 1 can be affected.

Grandstand Sports has a special deal exclusive to MLTC members from now until the end of November, you can “Buy one item get and get the second item half price” (minimum spend €30, to include sale items). Sounds like a great offer in the lead up to Christmas!
