News & Events 28th July 2016

  Aren’t the weeks just flying by….it seems like only yesterday that I sent the Snippets  –  but a lot has happened in the week!

The Handicap Finals day last Saturday produced some great matches very keenly contested!

Well done to all who competed & helped to make the 2 weeks so successful.  Thanks to Breege & Andrew for organising the event.

As is her tradition Dee Nolan produced her ice cream wafers during the afternoon…this year there were 3 generations of Nolan’s…Dee, her gorgeous daughter Jessie &  adorable Granddaughter Danielle!  Thanks a mil ladies!

The day finished with the annual BBQ – & presentation of prizes –  which was attended by 67 members & was great fun.  The Steaks & salads were just gorgeous – a big thank you to our BBQ man Colin Byrne – he really turns up trumps every year.

Well done to Clodagh & Emily for rounding the troops & getting such a good response. Next big function…..the At Home – Killiney Golf Club – Sat  27th August.

A big Thank You to Eric Cooney who again took numerous photos throughout the afternoon & also at the BBQ & prizegiving – it’s the one time we all look forward to our photo being taken cos Eric makes us all look amazing!!

Senior Championships – Entry forms must be with me by Wed next 3rd Aug – Breege & Andrew are really looking forward to a bumper entry to end their year as Captains – so if you want a game of tennis during those 2 weeks you better enter the tournament!

Club Night is back in action this evening – Joe Gallagher is hosting but will be chasing people to volunteer.  (  I know the feeling Joe –  trying to get volunteers for Lock up duty!!)

JUNIORS:  The Junior Championships also held their Finals last week end – again a great success with lots of Mums & Dads down supporting – well done Adrienne (& Harry Crossan) for running the tournament so smoothly.

As Adrienne finishes as Junior Day Manager  on Friday I’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Juniors to thank her so much for her dedication to you all during the last 6 weeks. What patience you have Adrienne!!

Karen Mac Kenna will be the Day Manager for the month of August.

Summer Camps. There are 3 Tennis / Fun Camps left  – next week  Camp 5 :  2nd – 5th Aug. –

Camp 6: 8th – 12th August –  Camp 7: (Adrienne’s)  22nd / 24th / 25th & 26th Aug. ( sign up sheets on the Notice Board)

Great news for Julie Byrne before she heads off to Oklahoma University in August – she’s been selected to play for Leinster in the Senior Inter Provincials to be played in Middleton Co. Cork on 5th/6th Aug.  Well done Julie!

Ther were some great results from Sutton last week for the kids on the circuit..Conor  won the U/16 Singles & Conor & Fergus  won the U/18 Doubles. Well done guys!

Conor  has reached the semi final (U14 singles)  of the Tennis Europe international tournament being held in DCU this week…good luck in the semis Conor!

Josh  also qualifired for this prestigious event & reached the 2nd round of the U/14 singles.  Josh also reached the final of the U/14 mixed doubles in St. Annes Waterford – played last Saturday.

There is a large contingent of Monkstown Juniors playing in Leopardstown this week – 12 in all!!
