News & Events 28th September 2017

We’re a busy club at the moment with leagues being competed in at all ages, Senior League, Floodlight League, Ladies Morning League, Boys U/ 18, Girls U/14 League and the Stars & Stripes event. Thanks to all Captains who get their teams out every week.
With just one match to go the Senior League teams have it all to play for this Sunday. The Men’s Over 35’s & Over 55’s are top of their sections and the Over 45’s are in 3rd place. Speaking of the 35’s team, last Sunday the tennis on view was of such a standard in the deciding top doubles that the Men’s morning guys thought they were at Wimbledon!! Scott & MickyMac came out winners in a scintillating match – 6/7 – 6/3 – 6/4. A great team result to beat Fitzwilliam 1st 2/1.
The Ladies teams are also flying along. The 1st Team tops their section – 2nd team in 3rd place, 3rd team also tops their section, 4th team are in 2nd place, 5th team in 3rd place and the 6th team in 2nd place. So, you can see all matches are crucial this Sunday, very best of luck to all teams.
The floodlight league is also underway, very good start for the two Men’s teams, a little shaky start for the Ladies with just the third team winning. Early days yet!
Men’s morning will have an early start again this week, no matches at 9.30am – but there are 2 matches at 11.
CLUB NIGHT: Club Night tonight is hosted by Vera Sheehan….many thanks Vera, looks like it’ll be a nice evening so pop down for a game & a chat!
LADIES MORNING; The Ladies Charity League starts next Mon/ Tues ….2nd / 3rd Oct. All matches at 10am. This Monday there are 2 matches and on Tuesday there’s 1 match. The Ladies Morning Committee have asked me to let you know that as part of their ongoing communication with the Ladies, they plan to introduce Web Texting regarding upcoming events etc. Keep an eye out. Stephen’s Coaching Clinic for those Ladies who have put their name on the list starts next Wednesday at 9am and will run for approx. eight weeks.

JUNIORS: The U/16 Stars & Stripes invitation event held in the club last Saturday was a great success with seven clubs partaking. Shankill won the Trophy beating Bray in the Final, with Sandycove beating Monkstown in the Plate Final. A big Thank You and well done to Catherine Keane who organised the evening, ably assisted by Alice O’Connell and Fionnuala Dunn.
The U/12 Shield semi-final takes place this Saturday in Monkstown at 5.30. Monkstown play Blackrock. Thanks to Roisin Schwer for organising the team etc.
The Boys U/18 play Sutton 1st in Monkstown @ 5.30 this Sunday
The Girls U/14 play Portmartnock 1st in Portmarnock also @ 5.30 this Sunday
Stephen welcomed back the Special Needs children from the local school on Tivoli Road this morning. It’s just wonderful to watch them, again the school is so grateful to the tennis club for allowing them the use of our facilities.

The Annual Kennelly Tournament was a huge success last Saturday. Despite quite wild conditions the tennis was good fun with a very popular winner of the Turform Trophy in Brid Bunbury! Despite being on crutches & in pain Ciaran ran the tennis end of things and brought his own sense of humour to the event! What can be said about Susie and her catering, when she arrived down at 5.30 – nothing was ready, by 8 o’clock we were all sitting down to a delicious supper. Her trade mark baked ham was as divine as ever. Two charities benefitted from the night, Vincent de Paul and the Father McVerry Trust. Well done & thanks again Ciaran & Susie.
An exciting time for Pat Cowley as she heads off to Orlando next Thursday to play for Ireland in the ITF Super Seniors event. Congrats and the very best of luck Pat!
