News & Events 29th November 2108

Well there’s a definite festive air about the club this week with the Ladies Christmas Party being held tomorrow night and both the Men’s and Ladies Turkey tournaments taking place on Sunday next! Carmel & Johnny are looking forward to a big turnout for their first official event as Captains. The signup sheets are filling up, but as is traditional the Men are a bit shy about signing up, so come on guys and email Judy if you can’t get down to sign up! The Men’s tournament is at 10.30am, followed by the Ladies at 1.30pm, entry fee €15.00. Don’t forget to “Bring a Plate” of sandwiches or cake please!

The Ladies Christmas Party sounds like it’ll be a super night! Sixty nine Ladies will be there so you can imagine the noise level! I have to say the Committee of Sarah Jayne, Anne, Helen and Caroline have done Trojan work in the lead up. The night kicks off with a prosecco reception at 7.30 Sharp – followed by Dinner, don’t forget your Vincent de Paul “food appeal” donation. Have a great night Ladies!

Carmel has planned Round 2 of the very popular Round Robin series. The draws are on the Notice board so get going with arranging your matches!

Club Night: Club Night tonight will be hosted by Rob McCullagh! Many thanks Rob, we need a few more volunteers to host a Club Night please!

Juniors: The National Winter Match plays are being played in Galway this weekend. We have two juniors representing Monkstown, Scott and Sara Jane in the U/12 singles. Both players are seeded No 2 in their respective events, the very best of luck to you both!

Last weekend Clara was just pipped in the semi-final of the Leinster Provincial match plays, by the eventual winner. Great performance Clara!

The coming week is the last week of Group coaching, except for any days that were affected by rain, so ask your coach and they’ll let you know. A few fees still remain outstanding, please settle ASAP! Thanks.

Our own Julie Byrne who is on scholarship in the USA has been selected on the Irish team to play in the World University Games to be played in Paris this weekend. Eight countries are participating. Congratulations on this great honour Julie and the best of luck.

There is a Ladies friendly match here tomorrow morning from 11.15am to 12.30pm so all six courts will be required.

Just a reminder of the Ladies Night out in Grandstand Sport in Patrick St. Dun Laoghaire this evening 5.30 – 8.30pm with bargains galore and goodie bags!

A little plea for a few Men to volunteer to do Lock-up duty, volunteers should email Judy and let her know, it’s only 6 days out of 365!!
