News & Events 30th August 2018

Another super week for our club, Conor G. won the U/16 Singles title at the Irish Junior Championships played at Fitzwilliam last weekend, he also lifted the Mixed title. Well done Conor on a terrific finish to a great season for you.

We’re delighted that both Conor & Julie Byrne are playing in the club Championships currently being played in the club. They’ve added a very special atmosphere to the event. Both Conor & Julie are scheduled to play singles matches this evening. Also this evening we are honoured with the presence of Richard Fahey, CEO of Tennis Ireland, who will be joining us for some of this evening’s play.

Niall and Denise are playing a blinder in running the event, not an easy task with so many events. As is traditional, the Championship Mixed Final will be played tomorrow night, time to be confirmed, the Mixed Plate final will also be played tomorrow night. Saturday is Finals Day, play should begin around lunchtime. Please bring a plate of goodies for Afternoon tea! Mary Meagher is beavering away planning the At Home in the Royal Irish Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire. Can those attending the event please pay Judy (€50.00 per head) either this evening or tomorrow Friday.

The Senior League starts on Sunday next, with Men’s matches in the morning and Ladies in the afternoon so court availability will be restricted. This week there’s a match at 10am & 11am with – two Ladies matches at 2pm and one match at 3.30pm. Carmel Mc Allister, who is organising an interesting Round Robin Singles, tells me that it is ready to go and will run for six weeks from Monday next 3rd September to Sunday 14th October. Full details will be on the Notice Board from next Sunday.

What a super night we had last Tuesday when Mick & Breege Clancy hosted their Annual Golden Oldies night in aid of the charity CRY. €1675.00 was raised on the night, to which Mick & Breege are deeply appreciative. Dr David Mulcahy, representing CRY, gave an inspirational talk on the workings of the charity. Again thanks to Breege and clan for producing such a tasty meal to so many of us!

JUNIORS: A big Thank You to Adrienne and Karen for supervising the kids over the summer and to Stephen for running his Tennis Camps. Thanks also to the Mums who gave a helping hand throughout the summer. Coaching groups still open for registration. All details on the Notice Board. Starting Date of Term 1 is Monday 10th Sept.
