Our new look website was launched on Monday 21^st June 2010, the longest day of the year and as it happens one of the hottest days – especially for Federer as he struggled through a 5 setter opening match against the left-handed Falla earlier at Wimbledon.

Many thanks to all the Members of the Club who attended the launch- some great suggestions will be taken on board.  Thanks especially to Anne Broderick and the Social Committee who organised the event, including the food and wine, and thanks to all who have contributed to Monkstown LTC’s technical development to date including Ann McGovern and the IT Committee, Richard Watson and the Junior Committee and many other members who work voluntarily sending out notices and texts about Club events.  

Pat Cowley has been appointed Editor of the website on behalf of Monkstown LTC and she welcomed everyone to the launch. Pat explained that the Committee hopes that the site will be a great resource for the Members, providing timely reports, news and information for everyone.  It will of course need content from the Captains and the Committees and general membership and so training for key people is ongoing during June this year – if you are technical and want to support us, volunteers are always welcome – we’d appreciate your help!

Initially we will be testing access to a password-protected members directory.  This would allow Senior members to communicate with each other by text or email– provided you have emailed us your permission to publish your details for access by other members. We will be communicating this request to all members by text as soon as the new office software allows us to contact everyone and letting everyone know of the password.

Also we are password protecting all Junior member images in a private gallery and that password will also be texted to the entire Membership in the coming weeks.  This is in place so that Monkstown LTC is in compliance with standard online child protection guidelines. We will be updating everyone on how this affects taking photographs of teams, especially where a Junior player is part of a Senior team.

Kevin Polley led the proceedings with a short introduction to the technology development plan agreed by the Management team which includes the new website and court activity sheet.  Further improvements will be introduced as we go through the year, including new office systems and tournament software.  This will be useful to Karen and Tom, our 2010 Captains, as well as anyone organising club events.
