Junior Update June 2019

Well what a busy start to the year for the Monkstown Juniors! We have had a number of fun tournaments this year already with lots more to come. Our Tennis4Cancer event was very well supported with over 50 children taking part, all enjoying a great afternoon of tennis and pizza!!

Monkstown ran a very successful inaugural Leinster U9 Junior Tennis Open on the 7th April, hosting 48 children from over 15 tennis clubs....with one little girl coming all the way from Termonfeckin LTC. We had twelve U9 Monkstown players entered; for some of them it was their first junior open...and now they want to play more! The sun shone and the atmosphere was fantastic! We had excellent feedback from Leinster Tennis and all those who participated. Thank you and well done to all the older juniors, Mums and the Executive Committee who helped out umpiring matches and serving teas and coffees all afternoon. Stephen finished off the day with a fun doubles event. We hope to run another Junior Open soon...

We have just finished the Spring Stars & Stripes competition for U17, U12 and U 14. The U14 team made it to the Cup final against Sandycove. Unfortunately they were beaten by a narrow margin.

In the Leinster Leagues our U12 Girls team had a good run in Class 2 and the U12 Boys had a tough group in Class 2, but was a great experience for them all with some boys playing their first league tennis match for Monkstown. Finally we entered a young U18 Boys team in Class 2, they had some great matches and with another three years in this age group they have many great matches to look forward too.

As ever in Monkstown, the future looks bright!
