Club Updates June 2019
In keeping with a long-standing Monkstown LTC pre-Christmas tradition, the annual Turkey tournaments drew a strong entry across the three separate competitions – mens, womens and mixed. The competing players were blessed with crisp sunshine on the courts and a feast of mulled wine and sweet & savoury snacks expertly prepared and served by Anne-Marie McGrath, Karen Ivory and Alan Boyne. Thanks to all who entered over the two weekends of action.
Ladies Christmas Party
A huge attendance (nearly 70!) enjoyed a brilliant night in the Clubhouse at the end of November for what is sure to be a smash hit annual event. The Ladies Committee did a great job in attracting such a high turnout but also in dressing the Clubhouse in such a colourful and imaginative way.
The annual Captains’ Day was once again well-supported with more than 60 members taking part in the fun tennis tournament during the day and a turn out in excess of 50 at the dinner, held in the Clubhouse. The tennis component included the ever-popular “Threes” format, with three players forming a team and taking to the court at the same time to play for eight minutes against another team of three. It allowed so many members to share court time with a big number of other members and the social aspect of this format is what makes it so enjoyable. Your captains, Carmel & Johnny, are hugely appreciative of the support for the event and are excited about the Summer of tennis to come.
MLTC goes GREEN
Members will be delighted to know that the Club is leading the way in supporting and promoting environmental-friendly practices. A new Green Committee has been convened to highlight the importance of Reducing, Reusing & Recycling the everyday materials that we consume. The Committee is comprised of senior members Carmel McAllister, Barbara Liston and Angela Corkery and juniors Clara McGannon and Amelia Kelly. Keep an eye out for the Green Bins and other markers for an environmentally-friendly Club grounds.
