Snippets of 18 July

Well we're nearing the end of a very successful and enjoyable 2 weeks of the Handicap tournament. The atmosphere throughout the 2 weeks has been brilliant - helped in no small way by the Ladies who volunteer each evening to produce very tasty food - and also Alex in the Bar. The matches have been pretty exciting with many 3 setters...good on the tennis committee for their pretty accurate handicapping! Thanks to Carmel & Johnny for their commitment throughout the tournament, ably assisted by Anne Tweedy. The Captains really appreciate those players who had to play through the rain on one or two of the evenings..... fingers crossed there'll be no more rain!

Finals Day is Saturday next with matches starting around 1 o'clock. Should be a great afternoon of tennis so pop down & support the Finalists. As is customary please bring a plate of goodies with you so we can enjoy a lovely afternoon tea organised by Karen & Anne Marie.
The BBQ on Saturday night kicks off with a Prossecco reception at 7.30 followed by Colin's delicious steaks at 8.30! If you have your name down to attend the BBQ I'd appreciate if you gave me your payment this evening...€30 per person....also there are a couple of entry fees outstanding....ugh hate talking money!

The next big event on the calendar is the hosting of the Senior Inter Pros....Fri / Sat, 9th/10th August. It's a big honour for the club and even more so to have two of our members representing Leinster..Julie Byrne on the Ladies team and Scott Barron on the Men’s. A few of the Ladies, along with Scott, had a practice session yesterday evening and the hitting was just amazing - so we have a real treat in store.

A reminder that there is NO club night tonight!

Our Juniors have had another super week - what with the Camp, supervised tennis and some of our Juniors playing in the Greystones Open week they sure are being entertained!. A word of thanks to Senior members who put off their games til 1 o'clock..it's much appreciated.

As I said, it's good to see some Juniors on the circuit - those involved played really well - Young Scott Barron had a super win this morning beating the No2 seed in the U/14 singles..Andrew Schwer came through unbeaten in the U/10's round robin - and the young Kennedys - Rosie & Robyn - put up a superb performance in the U/9's event. Well done to young Johnny & Larkin Brophy who also performed with great success. Best of luck in your next tournament!

Our own Junior Championships start on Monday next...Adrienne tells me the draws and schedule of play will be on the Notice board from tomorrow, Friday... so please check your times. Have a n exciting week and enjoy!

The grounds are looking super - again thanks to Arek and the indefatigable Trish, who every time she comes down for a game goes on court with a fistful of weeds!!

Kevin (Polley) has organised the repainting of the clubhouse .. it is progressing well and will show off our lovely clubhouse to look better than ever!

Congratulations to Paul Kerr who became a Grandad again last week with the arrival of baby Cleo - born to his daughter Rachel & Damien!

I can't even mention the obvious.....so keep guessing!!!

Warm regards

Judy
