Juniors

We have something for Juniors of all ages in Monkstown LTC. With close to 400 Junior members between the ages of 8 and 18, we are about enjoying tennis at every level, making friends and supporting our team mates. We are immensely proud of our Juniors’ endeavours in so many fields, from their achievements in Opens, participating in competitions, and helping out in our own fun tournaments.

COACHING

Coaching for Juniors

We are lucky enough to offer top-class coaching for Juniors (members only) of all ages and standards. Under the guidance of our Coaches, many of our Junior members have advanced from fun club events to external Tournaments and Opens and we are hugely proud of all our young members past and present.

Group coaching is available seven days a week and runs during the school term from September to June. Individual coaching is also available on request.

TENNIS FOR FUN

Tennis for Fun

We run regular social activities for junior members including Pizza Tournaments and Family Days. These are open to juniors of all tennis levels and are a great way for children and parents to get to know each other.

Sign-up sheets are posted on the noticeboard in the club a week or two before each event and all Junior members are encouraged to take part.

Competitions

Junior Ladder, Round Robin Table, Handicaps & Championships

Once a junior member begins to demonstrate a greater interest in playing tennis, he or she may be ranked by our coaches and included on the junior ladder. This allows coaches to gauge progression among junior members and to select league teams. The ladder is posted on the club noticeboard and aims to encourage junior members to play more matches against each other. Those on the ladder can challenge one another and gain match experience.

Competitive Tennis

Many Monkstown Juniors have advanced to competing in junior league tennis and Stars ’n Stripes. Please speak to our coaches if your child is interested in participating in external tournaments and they can guide you through the process.

Stars & Stripes is a junior tennis league involving local tennis clubs and is open to junior players who are ranked outside the top 70 Leinster Tennis ranking. It allows junior players to play inter-club tennis in a friendly but competitive spirit.

There are two age categories: U12 & U14, and on each team there are 6 boys and 6 girls.

The U12 Stars and Stripes runs for 5 weeks over February and March.

The U14 league runs over March and April.
