Blue and Gold - Inter Club Mixed Doubles Tennis

The inter club mixed doubles "Blue and Gold" competition kicked off on Friday last with a home match for the Gold team (against Claremont) and an away match for the Blue team (against Wicklow). Both matches were close contests with the Gold team coming through on this occasion. This week the Blue team is away to Shankill 1 and the Gold team is at home to Shankill 2 - best of luck to all the players. A special word of thank to Emily Kelly (Gold) and Andy Curtin (Blue) for doing a stellar job as team captains.

Easter Cup Men's Doubles Tennis

The men's Easter Cup team has now completed four of the six match series with the local participating clubs with strong showings against Shankill, Blackrock, Newtownpark, and Sandycove. The Easter Cup team plays St Marys at home on Saturday at 11am. Best of luck to team captain Bill Sadlier and all on the Easter Cup squad. Lend the guys your support if you are in the neighbourhood on Saturday.

Men's Summer League  (see attached flyer) ==> from Declan Cotter, Men's Captain.

Preparation for men's summer league kicks off this week - hot on the heels of the completion of the winter league! According to the DLTC schedule for the 2024 season, the quantum of teams for summer league must be registered with DLTC on or before March 19, 2024. Nominated team players and substitutes must be registered with the DLTC on or before May 7th, 2024. As men's club captain, the task for me over the next few weeks will be to make people aware of the summer league, determine the level of interest at our club in the men's summer league, and then register the appropriate number of men's teams with the DLTC - summer league should be fun, not a chore! If summer league tickles your fancy, then please register your interest using the WhatsApp link below (or the QR code in the enclosed flyer). Note, for those of you already attached to the "MLTC Winter League 2024" WhatsApp group, there is no need for you to re-register.

 Highlights:

·                     Match schedule runs from Saturday May 11th to mid June (precise schedule to be provided by the DLTC in due course)

·                     Matches played on Friday evenings or Saturday afternoons.

 MESSAGE FROM HEAD COACH STEPHEN

The Winter League has reached the Play Off stages, with a very strong representation of teams from Monkstown.

The Ladies had 8 teams involved with no less than 5 teams reaching the Play Offs....a super achievement.

On the Men's side 4 Teams were entered, with the Mens 1st getting through to the 1/4 Finals.

1st Team  v  Leopardstown 1st  -  At Home  @  11am

Very best of luck to all teams...We are renowned for supporting our teams, so  make that extra effort on Sunday!

Another big sporting event this weekend is the World Athletic Indoor Championships to be held in Glasgow - Fri / Sat / Sun.

Our own Sarah Healy - who broke the Irish 1500m & 3000m just last month - a fantastic achievement - is on the Irish Team. She runs in the 1500m.

Very best of luck Sarah from all in MLTC!

    Cheers  Stephen
