   JUNIOR NEWS

JUNIOR LEAGUE

Our Junior teams had a very successful campaign in the Spring Leinster League.

We entered 8 teams: U12 Girls, U12 Boys; U15 Girls, Boys & Mixed, U18’s Girls, Boys and Mixed. 5 of the teams reached playoffs - the U12 Boys; U15 Girls; U15 Mixed; U15 Boys and U18’s Girls. Our U12 Boys reached the semifinal which was played on the 11th of May and they were unlucky to lose 2-1 against Greystones - the matches were close and very exciting.

Well done to all our juniors who competed in the League - MLTC can be very proud of all of you.

U14S STARS & STRIPES

It was the turn of MLTC to organise the Spring U14 Stars & Stripes competition and this included hosting finals days on Saturday April 26th with matches taking place at 4pm, 5pm & 6pm on all 6 courts. Well done to Greg Ryan & Elaine our parent volunteers for U14's on the Junior Committee for all their organising. MLTC had a strong showing and won the 3rd/4th place match in the Cup with a win over Sandycove. Glenageary were the overall Cup winners. However, our girls won the trophy for most points accumulated throughout the competition. Once again well done to all who participated and thank you to the coaches for supporting them throughout especially - Karen McKenna, Jana Langford & Adrienne Cusack

For all new and current members:  If you have a junior member and aren’t in a WhatsApp group relevant to their age and would like to be added please contact the relevant person - see details below or see the Junior Committee Noticeboard.

LEINSTER TENNIS TOURNAMENTS

On Sunday 11th May, Monkstown ran the T100 Leinster tennis tournament for the U14 boys. 16 boys from different clubs participated in the competitive match play including 5 of our own Monkstown boys.

Well done Elliott, Dara, John, Toby and James who all did very well and received their first national ranking as U14!

Thank you to the men’s morning crew who gave up their morning tennis tournament to facilitate this junior play.

This Sunday 25th May, MLTC will host another Leinster tennis tournament for the U9 and U10 (Orange and green ball).  We are expecting 46 kids in total so the club will be busy.

Good luck to all the Monkstown participants - Tabitha, Siún, Johnny, Tom, Emma, Elodie, Lucy, Amelia and Hugo.   Enjoy!

UPDATE FROM STEPHEN

Last Friday evening saw a big crowd convene at the club for the Mens first Team's Summer League match against Naas.

The reason for the big turnout was the return of Conor Gannon to Monkstown.

Conor, who later this month embarks on a full-time professional tennis career, wowed the crowd with a typically dominant and entertaining display on Court 4.

It was great to see so many members of all ages and standards drop in to see Conor in action.

As ever with Conor he was exceptionally generous with his time after his match and hung around to hit some balls with a few excited Junior

members.

Wishing him the very best of luck over the coming weeks and we will all be keeping a keen eye on his progress as he starts out on the professional Tour.

The dates of  the Summer Camps I'll be running have been finalised so make sure you sign up for them!

Camp 1        30th June - 4th July

Camp 2        21st - 25th July

Camp 3        5th - 8th August

A sad time for the club with three of our longstanding members passing away recently.

My condolences to the families of Gerry Roberts - Tony Bunbury and Pat Sloan.  RIP

All the best                Stephen
